Casemiro is set to depart Manchester United in January after recognizing that his future lies away from Old Trafford, according to information obtained by 90min.

The 31-year-old joined amid considerable excitement in August 2022, signing a four-year contract in a deal that involved Real Madrid for up to £60 million.

Initially, his performances were promising, organizing United’s midfield and scoring crucial goals. However, incidents resulting in suspensions and a downturn in his form this season have impacted his standing. United’s struggles in various competitions have coincided with his own decline.

Injured since October, missing 13 games, Casemiro has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League, with talks of a potential transfer gaining traction. United is considering this opportunity to recoup the significant investment made in Casemiro and might sanction a move in January if a suitable offer emerges.

Reports suggest Casemiro is open to leaving United, with interest from the Saudi Pro League being prominent. Financial Fair Play concerns could limit Paris Saint-Germain’s ability to compete in the bidding process.

Should Casemiro depart, United would relieve themselves of their highest earner’s wages and potentially create space on the wage bill, including the likes of Sancho, Van de Beek, Varane, and Martial.

The decision on Casemiro’s departure is yet to be finalized, contingent on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS-led investment and the planned restructuring of the club’s football department. This overhaul aims to address issues with United’s transfer strategy and could potentially impact Erik ten Hag’s future as manager. However, any significant managerial decision is expected to be deferred until Ratcliffe’s new setup takes shape.
