Getafe’s president, Angel Corres, expressed interest in the possibility of purchasing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United on a permanent basis.
Greenwood made the move to Spain on the final day of the transfer window, initially on a season-long loan, following Manchester United’s change of plans to reintegrate him into the squad due to allegations that were later dropped. He’s contributed seven goal involvements in 13 appearances for Getafe.
While Greenwood’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2025, with an extension option, the club was considering a free transfer before his loan to Getafe.
Corres mentioned that they have faith in Greenwood and are exploring options to secure his permanent stay at the club. The club president stated that discussions have touched upon various aspects, but it’s still early to finalize terms due to changes in Manchester United’s ownership. He emphasized the positive reception Greenwood has received from Getafe’s fans and Spain in general, expressing the club’s commitment to supporting him.
Corres further noted that Greenwood, after a lengthy period without playing, is expected to regain form in January or February. The player’s performances have attracted interest from several clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund.
However, a final decision on Greenwood’s future, whether he remains at Getafe or returns to Manchester United, hinges on the completion of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment and the setup of the club’s new football department.
