The Premier League has announced a surprising VAR mistake made by the referees during the Manchester City vs Tottenham match, with PGMOL facing scrutiny over the error. The referees stopped play for a foul instead of playing advantage, causing controversy.
Manchester City expressed frustration over what they described as a “really strange” judgment during their draw with Spurs, leaving Neville puzzled. Erling Haaland and other City players were angry at Simon Hooper for not allowing a potential scoring opportunity for Jack Grealish during added time.
This incident left the Manchester City players, especially Haaland, bewildered. Gary Neville, while commentating on Sky Sports, expressed confusion, stating, “Oh no! Simon Hooper immediately continued the game. What was achieved there? That was truly odd.”
After Hooper blew the final whistle, the frustration persisted. Haaland, the fouled player, vocally confronted Hooper and stormed off the pitch, reportedly telling the referee to ‘F**k off’, as seen in social media posts.
Following the game, Sky Sports aired a clip showing Hooper seemingly playing advantage before blowing the whistle, not after Haaland’s foul, leading to further investigation of the incident.
Micah Richards expressed his confusion, mentioning, “I don’t understand. The referee had a good game until now. He stopped and indicated with the whistle at his mouth, ending play afterwards. It’s confusing; Grealish had a clear chance against the goalkeeper, so play should have continued.”
Roy Keane acknowledged Hooper’s mistake but insisted that Manchester City was to blame for letting Spurs back into the game. He stated, “It’s a bad call, Jack had a clear chance on goal. He’s got that wrong; he should have let play continue for some reason. Don’t blame the referee for that; City will be disappointed for allowing Spurs to get away.”
